Hello!

My name is Laura Owings, and I'm honored to serve as the School Counselor at Ninety Six Primary School. I graduated from Dorman High School in 2005, Presbyterian College in 2009 (B.S. in biology and chemistry), and Liberty University in 2023 (M.Ed. in school counseling). I have been affiliated with the Ninety Six Community for about 18 years, and it has felt like home since the day I discovered it.

My husband and I are blessed with two beautiful girls, ages 5 and 7. We stay very busy with gymnastics, football, cheerleading, baseball/softball, and any other sport our girls are willing to try. We love supporting our Ninety Six Wildcats and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks! We also love to travel to Edisto Island and Surfside Beach, the North Carolina mountains, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee during our breaks. The three keys to my heart are hiking, camping, and viewing waterfalls.

My daily activities as a school counselor include classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and short-term individual counseling. Some of the topics I focus on are anxiety and worry, anger management, friendship skills, conflict resolution, teamwork and cooperation, grief, coping with uncomfortable feelings, compassion and kindness, gratitude, determination and perseverance, self-control and self-discipline, manners and respect, self-confidence and motivation, responsibility and honesty, and career exploration and discovery. I also engage our students in school-wide programming, such as Monthly Positive Character Traits, Random Acts of Kindness Week, Drug Awareness Month, Terrific Kids, and Career Awareness Month. My overall goal is to form lasting relationships with students, parents, faculty, and community members so that our Ninety Six Primary School Cubs will grow and develop healthily and holistically and will be set up to reach their fullest potential.
